NEWS FROM SUE

SUNDAY SCHOOL

  •  Rally Day:  Ignite the spark on Sunday, September 12 with Rally Day!  This will be the first day of Sunday school classes for grades K-5 at 9:45am and children’s church for preschoolers at 10:00 a.m.  6th-8th Grade will start on September 19 at 11:15am.  Following the 10:00 a.m. service there will be a picnic lunch provided for everyone as well as a ministry fair in the parish hall with many booths filled with opportunities to be involved in parish activities throughout the year.  There will also be a huge moonwalk so the kids can act like real “sparks” as they jump up and down!

  • Registration: Is now going on for households who have children ages 0-10th grade.  If you did not receive a registration packet in the mail please contact Sue or the parish office as soon as possible.  Please return your registration by September 1 so we can finalize our class groupings.    Click here for the Registration form.

  • Welcome Baby Reception: I'm announcing the newest addition to the nursery; Hallie Marie Pohjola, daughter of Stacy – our nursery supervisor and her husband Aaron was born on August 21.  She did, however, manage to interrupt our plans for a baby shower for Stacy, so we will be having a Welcome Baby reception honor of Hallie, Stacy and Aaron on Sunday, September 26 after the 10 am service in the Olcott Room.

  • Summer Spark Ending/Children's Church Resumes:   This Sunday is the final Sunday for Summer Spark.  Next Sunday there will be no programming.  Rally Day, September 12 will include the return of Spark Children's Church for preschool age kids.

  • Family Fun Nights:  Mark your calendars now for our first of several monthlyFun Nights!   Saturday October 2 from 6-8pm will be a movie night.  Grab a blanket/sleeping bag/pillow and come to the parish hall to enjoy a great G rated movie projected on the wall; along with popcorn, shaved ice and more! It’s better than the movie theatres and it’s FREE!

Nursery:
Additional room:
We have set up a gate in the room right across the hall from the nursery.  Because we currently have a large number of kids using the nursery, (which is a wonderful thing!!) if it becomes crowded and/or if any of the older 2-3 year olds get aggressive, or need some separation time from the other kids, one of the attendants on duty will take the child/children into that room with a few toys and books and watch them there.  Our nursery is a beautiful space but it can be difficult sometimes with infants crawling around the floor to have the older 2-3 year olds playing.   Our main concern is the safety of all the kids, so if a child throws a toy, or is aggressive towards another child, then removal of that child(ren) into the other room will occur, and if needed, the parent will be contacted  to come to the nursery.

Policy Reminder for Parents:
Just a reminder to all parents who use the nursery. Our policy is that if a child is crying and can’t be comforted for more than 5-10 minutes at the most, the parent will be contacted and needs to come to the nursery.  We do not have the one on one staffing that a distressed child needs, nor the space to allow a crying child to continue and upset the other children in the nursery.
