A place for everyone, a ministry for everyone.

Blessed with a beautiful church building, our goal is to provide both parishioners and visitors with joyful worship services, lively study, prayer and fellowship programs.  We gather as an open community to worship God with dignity and joy, warmth and beauty.  We work for love, peace and justice by supporting several Neighborhood Partnership organizations and other local social service agencies as we witness to God’s love day by day.  We also work locally, with our Diocese, National Church and the larger Christian church.

St. Paul’s humble roots began when services were held in the local school house until the first structure on 2nd Street and Lake Avenue was built and dedicated on Christmas Day 1869.   Outreach to the community is a hallmark of St. Paul’s including the building of the first hospital in Duluth, St. Luke’s in 1881 due in large part to fundraising of the ladies of St. Paul’s, who also opened the second school of nursing in the state.  Today, that outreach continues through the Neighborhood Partnership and our outreach coordinator.

The first service in the present church on Superior Street was held May 11, 1915 and was designed in the tradition of the Cathedral of Canterbury.  But as was stated in the centennial booklet produced in 1969, “A church is a building, an edifice, a monument.  And it is something more:  a church is people.  And when all of these people are combined for good works, then you have a church, and a House of God.”  Truly, St. Paul’s is a House of God because of the people who walk through its doors and the people who we touch when we leave those same doors.

Sundays at St. Paul’s

For nearly two thousand years the followers of Jesus have come together to celebrate the day of the Lord’s resurrection.  The Sunday gathering around the table of the Lord is a hallmark of the Christian community and open to all who wish to know the Lord.  Sundays at St. Paul’s include opportunities for worship, education, reflection and hospitality for all ages.
